Ian, Violin teacher at the New Jersey School of Music, is the Principal second violinist for the PSNJ (Philharmonic of Southern New Jersey) and a member of the PSNJ Outreach Program. The PSNJ Outreach Program is a small ensemble composed of members from the Philharmonic that perform for local schools and strives to educate children about different music instruments and their respective instrument families. Ian is a member of the Bonilla String Quartet which performs for private functions as well as public functions and church services. Ian has performed at the Atlantic City Country Club, Glen Foerd Mansion, The Cranbury Inn, the Mansion in Voorhees and many of the areas fine venues. Ian has also achieved some of the areas highest honors including: The Instrumentalist Magazine First Chair Award in 2009, People’s Choice Award in 2009, National School Orchestra Award, and Outstanding Musical Achievement Award. Ian won positions in the All South Jersey Orchestra for 3 years and was Concert Master for CHS String Ensemble, orchestra, and chamber string ensembles.
Ian is very passionate about teaching the violin. He teaches violin with an emphasis on understanding music theory as well as music enjoyment. He adapts every lesson to the student's personality and specific educational needs. He strives to encourage his students through his love and understanding of music. Ian's teaching methods include a strong use of the Essential Elements String Series with supplementary materials drawn from the Suzuki method books.
