Jason, Sax, Clarinet, Flute teacher at the New Jersey School of Music, graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s in Music Composition and Performance from Duquesne University’s Mary Pappert School of Music. He was a Golden Key Honor’s Society Member as well as a Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society Member. In his studies Jason has covered such diverse interests as classical and jazz saxophone, Jazz Improvisation, Composition, Orchestration, Electronic Orchestration, Music Synthesis and Film Scoring. Mr. Mescia studied classical saxophone with world renowned classical tenor player James Houlik as well as the New Century Saxophone Quartet’s Stephen Pollock. Jason has studied or been involved in educational situations with many of today’s most creative musicians from a wide variety of musical interests including; Neil Wetzel of the Eric Mintel Quartet, David Stock, David Cutler, Lynn Purse, Micheal Tomaro and Bill Purse.
Among his list of accomplishments Jason has composed the music for the feature film ‘Gumshoe’, the score to a ‘Brief History of Hemmingway’, Chamber and Orchestral works for the ensembles O. Angel, Negrin, Affinity Saxophone Quartet, Duqesne Chamber Orchestra Contemporary Ensemble, and Finale work and editing for Joe Beck’s DVD. Jason, who is also an active performer, has worked with the Ben Edwards Quartet, the Philly Soul Band Soulamite, Karl Jones Quartet, Jim Love and the Blue Groove, Special Blend, Valerie Oswald, From Cosmos to Chaos, Rented Mule, and the Philadelphia Opera Company.
Jason teaches saxophone, clarinet, flute, composition, music theory, jazz theory, and improvisation and continues to have a great track record with his students who are all enthusiastic about coming to lessons. Jason has great success preparing students for auditions and he strives for his students to have fun playing their instruments and finding their own voice rather than viewing lessons and practicing as a chore.
