Mr. Modano, Piano teacher at the New Jersey School of Music, began the study of music in 1963 with piano and guitar lessons. He graduated from Rutgers University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1978. John also studied with New York composer/musician Dr. William Schimmel at the Neupauer Conservatory in Philadelphia. Additonally, Mr. Modano’s interests in the arts have led him to study acting and portrait painting: acting with Temple University’s William Mayo and Rutgers University’s Zig Berlin where he was in several Rutgers' productions and portrait painting with Mike Miceli of Mt. Airy, Philadelphia.
Mr. Modano began teaching piano in 1983, and since 1993 has traveled extensively throughout South Jersey teaching for the Conservatory Without Walls, headquartered in Moorestown, NJ. Having studied acting and portrait painting in addition to piano, John has developed an engaging method of teaching that uses principles of study that are common to all of the arts. He bases his piano lessons on effective communication and the tailored needs of each student’s personality and character.
John's performance experiences include many years of working with Variety Entertainment, Bob Palese Music and others, playing music for private and corporate functions, community centers and assisted living residences through out the south Jersey area.
Mr. Modano brings his calm demeanor and sincere dedication to each lesson setting his students at ease. His love of music and teaching is an inspiration to students of all levels and abilities.
