Jim, Guitar teacher, bass teacher, banjo teacher and mandoline teacher at the New Jersey School of Music, began studying guitar with private teachers in 1962. He studied guitar, theory, harmony, arranging, orchestration and composition with Albert Maene, a 25 year student and associate of the late Dennis Sandole. He began teaching guitar (and related fretted string instruments) in 1969 and playing professionally in 1970. In 1978, Jim wrote the book, “An Introduction to the Quartertone Guitar.” His book was reviewed in guitar periodicals in the US, Canada, Japan and France. In the 80’s Jim studied guitar with Joseph Sgro and in the 90’s he worked primarily as a solo classical and jazz guitarist.
In recent years Jim has taught numerous group classes in beginning guitar, intermediate guitar, beginning Keyboards, mandolin, rock guitar Techniques, solo jazz guitar and classical/flamenco guitar techniques at Lenape High School, Triton Memorial High School, Haddonfield Adult School, Camden County College and Bucks County College.
Jim currently teaches over 50 students per week for the New Jersey School of Music and is an adjunct faculty member at Burlington County College, department of Liberal Arts, where he teacher Applied Music and Advanced Applied Music-classical and jazz guitar. Jim has experience teaching people with learning disabilities as well as children who are diagnosed with ADD and ADHD. He is also part of a flute/guitar duo called Les Finesse, which works for the Camden County Cultural and Heritage Commission - the Musical Interludes program.
